Isomers in neutron - rich lead isotopes populated via the fragmentation of 238 U at 1 GeV A
نویسندگان
چکیده
Neutron-rich nuclei beyond N = 126 in the lead region were populated by fragmenting a U beam at 1 GeV A on a Be target and then separated by the Fragment Separator (FRS) at GSI. Their isomeric decays were observed, enabling study of the shell structure of neutron-rich nuclei around the Z=82 shell closure. Some preliminary results are reported in this paper.

New μs isomers in the neutron-rich 210Hg nucleus
Neutron-rich nuclei in the lead region, beyond N = 126, have been studied at the FRS-RISING setup at GSI, exploiting the fragmentation of a primary uranium beam. Two isomeric states have been identified in 210Hg: the 8 isomer expected from the seniority scheme in the νg9/2 shell and a second one at low spin and low excitation energy. The decay strength of the 8 isomer confirms the need of effec...
متن کاملFragmentation of very neutron - rich projectiles around 132 Sn
We propose an experiment to isotopically identify and determine the production cross sections of residual nuclei in the fragmentation of very neutron-rich nuclei around Sn produced in the fission of relativistic U primary projectiles. These measurements will provide valuable information about a possible two-step reaction scheme (fission-fragmentation) to optimise the production of extremely neu...
متن کاملβ - decay spectroscopy of neutron - rich 160 , 161 , 162 Sm isotopes
Neutron-rich 160,161,162Sm isotopes have been populated at the RIBF, RIKEN via β decay for the first time. β-coincident γ rays were observed in all three isotopes including γ rays from the isomeric decay of 160Sm and 162Sm. The isomers in 160Sm and 162Sm have previously been observed but have been populated via β decay for the first time. The isomeric state in 162Sm is assigned a 4− ν 7 2 [633]...
متن کاملModel calculations of a two-step reaction scheme for the production of the neutron-rich secondary beams
Actually, the design of more powerful next-generation secondary-beam facilities is being intensively discussed. The main challenge is the production of neutron-rich isotopes, because the neutron-drip line has only been reached for the lightest elements. The traditional way for producing neutronrich nuclei is fission of actinides. Another approach introduced recently, based on cold fragmentation...
متن کاملProduction of neutron-rich heavy residues and the freeze-out temperature in the fragmentation of relativistic U projectiles determined by the isospin thermometer
Isotope yields of heavy residues produced in collisions of U with lead at 1⋅A GeV show indications for a simultaneous break-up process. From the average N-over-Z ratio of the final residues up to Z = 70, the average limiting temperature of the break-up configuration at freeze out was determined to T -thermometer method. Consequences for the understanding of other phenomena in highly excited nuc...
